Pastor Robes - Their Meaning and Role

Pastor robes have become an essential part of most churches. You can find plenty of reasons why churches continue to make use of this age old tradition.

True Meaning of Minister Robes

Basically, wearing of church robes is a way for the people to be able to identify the minister or the pastor. The members of the church immediately know the person that was called by God to help lead his people, just by seeing the minister.

The robe functions by diffusing the person and his individuality and instead highlights the special position that the minister is called for which is to represent Christ.

Think of how police officers and judges don their own uniform. They do this because they are committed under oath and act accordingly as the main representative of the state.

Another good reason for the usage of the robes is that the minister comes to symbolize Christ himself.

The robes are not made to place the minister above everyone else; instead, it merely acts a way to set him apart for his special function and role under the leadership of the Lord.

Moreover, the robes also help to go ahead and add a touch of reverence to the services. There is no denying that whenever the pastor wears a robe in front, people pay attention to the service and what is being said.

The tradition of donning pastor robes has been around for a long time and so far continues to live on. Despite the objections, it is a holding firm as a tradition and hopefully will continue on for a long time.
